Gregory Kevin Waters: A Lifelong Artist
From Lisbon Falls, Maine, Gregory Kevin Waters has been an artist for as long as he can remember. Inspired by the beauty of nature and landscapes, and encouraged by his family, Greg began his artistic journey sketching anything that sparked his imagination using pencil and pen. Over time, he transitioned from creating paper to cavas then began experimenting with oil and acrylic paints, embracing the challenge of adding color and realism to his work.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Greg expanded his artistic pursuits into the world of tattooing. To truly understand and respect the art form, he practiced tattooing on his own skin, and every tattoo on his body is his own creation. While he excelled in tattoo artistry, Greg found himself yearning for a more dimensional medium.
At the end of 2014, a new opportunity allowed him to expand his artistic repertoire. Trading in his paintbrush for a chainsaw and his canvas for trees, Greg discovered the world of wood sculpting, Greg’s early carvings included eagles, owls, cardinals and bears—animals that quickly became his most popular creations. Over time, he mastered intricate designs and developed a specialty in onsite carvings and large-scale sculptures. From tiki figures to impressive animals, Greg thrives on tackling ambitious and imaginative projects.
Chainsaw carving is a dynamic and expressive art form that requires both skill and heart. Artists like Greg use the raw power of chainsaws, along with other tools, to transform massive logs or stumps into intricate, detailed works of art. Staying true to his roots, Greg continues to carve anything that inspires his imagination, channeling the same passion and creativity that have defined his artistic journey since the beginning.
